After a three year stint in the Army Air Force, Richie Wilfahrt came back home to New Ulm and met his future wife, Dorothy. Richard and Dorothy had two children, Karen and Daniel. Richie started being the Heritage Festmeister in 1976 at New Ulm’s annual Heritagefest music festival. That year he and New Ulm royalty participated in 18 parades promoting New Ulm and Heritagefest. Throughout his years, he was the official chaperone for Miss New Ulm and the Princesses and accompanied them to various parades and festivities. Asked many years ago what his favorite hobby was, Richie said, “Heritagefest is my hobby. I keep up on current events, enjoy spectator sports, reading, and creative woodworking. I also serve as a tour guide.” Asked about his future goal, he said “To make people smile!”
