From St. Paul, Michael Barone was born into a musical family and showed an early curiousity for the household’s modest collection of classical music records. With the support of his parents, Michael began piano lessons at age five. Beginning in middle school and continuing through college, he learned and played baritone horn, saxophone, string bass, and organ. In addition to in-school ensembles, Barone played keyboards with The Chevelles. He received a Bachelors Degree in Music History from Oberlin College in 1968. Employed by Minnesota Public Radio, he spent 25 years as Music Director and currently as Senior Executive Producer, specifically responsible for the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and The Pipedreams radio show centered around pipe organ music.
