Julie DeLeo
(1932-2009)
Inducted 2006
Julie DeLeo was a pioneer woman of old-tyme music in New Ulm. At the age of 11, she performed with The Six Fat Dutchmen whenever a member was unable to play. After attending school in California, she moved back to New Ulm and within one week was playing piano and keyboard for Babe Wagner’s Band. She played with many bands, and was a “side man” with over 60 years of experience with New Ulm bands. She averaged approximately 75,000 miles per year in traveling. After partial retirement in 1990, she still played in many nursing homes in the area. Her career in a lifetime of music took her to many states across America, but New Ulm was her pride and her musical heritage.
