Garrison Keillor
(1942- )
Inducted 2016
For more than 40 years humor writer Garrison Keillor hosted the popular nationally-syndicated Minnesota Public Radio program A Prairie Home Companion. Garrison transformed the show into a weekly live radio broadcast during 1974-2016 from St. Paul. The program featured celebrity guests, skits, songs, fake commercials, and stories about Lake Wobegon. A popular part of A Prairie Home Companion has been Keillor’s weekly monologue set in the quiet, fictional Minnesota town of Lake Wobegon, “where all the women are strong, all the men are good looking, and all the children are above average”. The list of Minnesota Music Hall of Fame inductees who have performed on Keillor’s show is signficant. Thousands of notable music-makers from the state, the USA, and even the world gave their best on A Prairie Home Companion and to Garrison Keillor.
