Rollie Altmeyer was born into a musical
family and learned music at an early age in Minneapolis. At South High School in 1925 he formed his own small group. In 1927 he had his first job as an organist and progressed through the supper club and hotel circuit until 1935 when he became a
studio organist for WCCO radio. After leaving for three years to serve in the United States Navy where he made good use of his musical talents. He then resumed his
radio work at WCCO and WTCN back in Minneapolis until 1952. He was ranked in the top-20 organists in the United States by his peers and his audience.
