Guy DeLeo was the leader of his own big band for 55 years and was a music teacher in the New Ulm area. A highlight of his musical career was when his band played as the house band at the Prom Ballroom in St. Paul for several years. DeLeo began his band in 1932 and the group logged thousands of miles playing dance jobs. A graduate of the MacPhail College of Music in Minneapolis, DeLeo taught in several New Ulm area schools and led choral groups in churches. While serving with the Marine Corps, he was appointed to the staff of the Marine School of Music. After his retirement, he judged talent shows and emceed several musical shows. Guy DeLeo died on April 2, 1992 at the age of 78. He was serving on the board of directors of the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame at the time of his death.
