Dr. Marvin Kahle started playing the trumpet in fourth grade. He later played French horn in the Holy Trinity Band of New Ulm and the viola in the school orchestra. When he turned 13, he began studying the banjo and playing bluegrass music with Bob Gruenenfelder. They called themselves The Ranch Boys. From 1938 to the mid-1940s, Marvin played with many bands, playing four or five nights a week and one year playing about 325 jobs. While enlisted in the service, he was in North Dakota, California, New Orleans, and New York. He then traveled across Europe and after WWII ended he came back to America. He attended Northwestern College of Chiropractic and practiced in St. Peter, LeCenter, Rochester, and Gaylord.
