You are settled in you seat – program in hand, anticipation in the air – when it begins: the fusion of sounds, the flurry of preparation. America’s premier Chamber Orchestra is warming up, and you can feel the current of excitement… The 33 virtuoso musicians of The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra are warming up to present a concert! The SPCO was formed in 1959. A “Chamber” Orchestra is a scaled-down Orchestra without quite as many musicians as a full version. There have been six Music Directors leading since the Orchestra’s inception, most notably with world-famous Pinchas Zukerman at the helm in the 1980s. The SPCO gives approximately 130 performances annually, most at their home The Ordway Center for The Performing Arts in beautiful downtown St Paul.
