The St. Paul Police Band

Policeman Bernard Al Munkholm, Robert Hubernette and Frank Mondike formed the St. Paul Police Band in 1923. The first Band Director was Professor Alfred Damm. Their first public appearance was in downtown at Rice Park in August 1924. In December 1926 the band played live on the newly-formed radio station WCCO 830AM. This is believed to be one of the first live concerts broadcast in America heard in faraway places such as New York and Florida. Today the band consists of approximately 65 members with a mix of Police Officers and civilians. The band has 36 life memberships in honor of those completing more than 15 years of service. The St. Paul Police Band participate in approximately 15 concerts and parades each year.
