Marilyn Sellars was born in Northfield, Minnesota and started singing in church at the age of three. As a teenager she sang at functions and clubs around Minnesota, performing all kinds of music. In 1973 family and friends suggested she move to Nashville, and Marilyn signed a recording contract with Mega Records. Success began immediately with the hit “One Day at a Time.” In 1974, the song reached #19 on the Billboard Country charts and #37 on the Billboard Hot 100. Her album went to number one on the country charts, taking over Elvis Presley’s spot at the top. Marilyn’s success included an ASCAP award for Best New Female Artist, an Academy of Country Music award nomination, and appearances on many national television shows. In the late 1970’s Marilyn moved back to Minnesota to raise a family and continued to perform and record albums. In 2004, she was inducted into the Minnesota Country and Rock Hall of Fame.
