He would go on to become an organ recitalist in the United States and Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Billmeyer enrolled in the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York in 1973 and attended on an academic scholarship. After earning his degree at Eastman, he furthered his studies at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. He studied organ and harpsichord at SMU. He studied as a Fulbright Scholar the Universit<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00e4t f\u00fcr Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna, Austria. In 1980, he returned to the Eastman School of Music and earned his doctorate in 1982. He was also named to the faculty of the University of Minnesota in 1982 where he teaches several courses in music.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Billmeyer has written various publications about organs. In 1987, he wrote <em>Historic Organs at the House of Hope Presbyterian Church, St. Paul, MN\u00a0<\/em>and <em>New Organs &#8211; University of Minnesota. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Dean Billmeyer has recorded with the Dale Warland Singers and the St. Mark&#8217;s Cathedral Choir. He has performed with the Minnesota Orchestra and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra for over 15 seasons. He toured in Europe with the Minnesota Orchestra in 2004. On the second anniversary of 9\/11, he performed the oratorio <em>A Song to David<\/em> with the Trinity Church Choir of Wall Street, New York. The performance was widely broadcasted. Billmeyer has worked on the oratorio with its renowned American composer, William Albright. In 2016, Billmeyer played five recitals in Germany.<\/p>\n<p>As well as being a Fulbright scholar, Dean Billmeyer has won other awards. He placed first in the 1980 Dublin International Organ Festival Competition. He won second prize at the festival in 1988. In 1978 and 1979, he won the St. Lewis Elmer Award which is given to the person who received the highest score in the American Guild of Organists Associateship or Fellowship examination.<\/p>\n<p>Dean Billmeyer is one of the most highly respected and sought-after teachers of the organ in the Midwestern United States.<\/p>\n<p>After one of his recitals at the Southern Methodist University, the <em>Dallas Morning News\u00a0<\/em>reported &#8220;Billmeyer can make an organ sing and shout in jubilation.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dean Billmeyer (1955- ) Inducted 2018 Dean Billmeyer was born into a family of scientists, and at the age of five, he began to study music.
