This choral group would go on to perform since its inception- still performing today. The Chord-Ayres has a membership of 35 dedicated singers and sing a variety of music including barbershop, popular, classical, sacred, and patriotic. The members come from the communities of Appleton, Boyd, Correl, Granite Falls, Dawson, Madison, Milan, Montevideo, Ortonville, Starbuck, and Wood Lake. The chorus was originally sponsored by the Russell Johnson American Legion Post #72 of Appleton for 12 years. In 1982 the American Legion Post #359 of Milan took over sponsorship, which continues today. The group performs at The Fort Snelling Chapel during Pearl Harbor Recognition Sunday every year, with the exceptions of 1991 and 2001. During those two missing years, the chorus performed at the Pearl Harbor Memorial Site at Ford Harbor on The Hawaiian Islands. One of the members is quoted as saying, “One of the greatest highlights was to be at the Pearl Harbor Memorial Site and to place a white floral lei in the water above the wreckage of The Battleship Arizona as we sang “Friendship” and “Eternal Father”. As the lei was dropped in the water, it took the shape of a heart as it drifted away. It retained its shape… never before observed. The sight was very impressive, as the oil slicks rose from the sunken hull”. The Chord-Ayres are asked to sing at numerous venues and occasions including performances of The National Anthem at Twins and Timberwolves games, weddings, funerals, patriotic events, nursing homes, church concerts, variety shows, county fairs, civic concerts, and military commemorations. The Chord-Ayres also represented The Minnesota American Legion at The National Choral Competition in 1975 at Seattle, in 1976 at Denver, and in 1977 at Minneapolis. Several smaller groups have come from the male chorus including Gammel Ost Trio, The Chordettes, The Sober Souls, and The Four on the Floor. The group has recorded four CDs including a Christmas album. Funds raised from The Chord-Ayres’ local concerts help to fund the Dollars for Scholars programs at various high schools in the area.

Chord-Ayres Inducted 2012 In rural Louisburg, Minnesota, on the evening of Tuesday, November 24th, 1969, a group of young men gathered in the basement of the Minnesota Valley Lutheran Church […]

[35,6
348,353,65,354,57,45
post-763","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-35","category-inductee","tag-348","tag-chord-ayres","tag-inductee","tag-milan","tag-minnesota","tag-minnesota-music-hall-of-fame
["GET
