Organist, teacher, composer, lecturer, conductor, scholar, and undoubted enthusiast. Manz was Chairman of The Concordia University Music Program in St. Paul from 1957 through 1976. For 37 years (1946-83) he was Director of Christian Education and Music at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Manz was an inspirational guide for generations of aspiring musicians, and his enthusiastic advocacy of hymnody did much to nurture and develop this most ancient of traditions. Manz, a Bach enthusiast, proved a persuasive interpreter of his own music as an organ recitalist.
