Later in high school they taught themselves to play other instruments, including the saxophone and clarinet. In 1959 they formed the band Roger Kodet and The Cards. The group played various venues in a three-state area and nearly at all of the major ballrooms in the Twin Cities. Over the years Doug worked with over 50 professional groups in between his college years and teaching in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, while Roger continued leading and directing The Cards until 1986.
