Bandleader & tuba player Harold and his band The Six Fat Dutchmen (which he started in 1930), was ranked for seven consecutive years as the Top Old-Tyme Band in the nation. He was the first Minnesotan to be inducted into the International Polka Hall of Fame, located in Chicago, in 1988. A New Ulm native, Harold & the “Six Fats” toured North America from Canada to Texas for decades. During the 1950’s and 60’s, his band played more than 300 dates per year, recorded over 700 polkas and waltzes for major labels RCA and Dot Records, and traveled over three million miles. Harold was noted for helping young aspiring musicians get started in their careers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
